Description

A hearty and nostalgic dish, Quebec-style beef pie is a perfect comfort food for winter evenings, packed with flavor and tradition.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb Ground Beef

1 Onion, chopped

2 cloves Garlic, minced

2 cups Potatoes, diced and cooked

1 tsp Cloves

1 tsp Nutmeg

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 tsp Thyme

1 Pie Pastry Dough

1 Egg, for egg wash

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until softened. Add ground beef and cook until fully browned.
  2. Stir in diced potatoes, cloves, thyme, and any other spices. Cover and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes until tender.
  3. Roll out the pastry dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
  4. Place half of the pastry in a greased pie dish, add your beef filling, and cover with the remaining dough. Seal edges and make slits for steam.
  5. Brush the top of the pie with an egg wash.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken. For a vegetarian option, consider plant-based meat substitutes.
