Ingredients

1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the molasses, buttermilk, and melted butter.
- Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead a few times until it holds together.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a lined baking sheet. Make a shallow cross on top.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For a lighter loaf, consider using half whole wheat and half all-purpose flour. You can also substitute the buttermilk with a mixture of yogurt and water.
