Description

An indulgent twist on classic banana bread, these cinnamon rolls are soft, flavorful, and topped with rich cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

3 medium ripe bananas

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup granulated sugar

2 packets active dry yeast

¾ cup milk

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

½ cup butter, softened

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Mash ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl until smooth. Add milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and active dry yeast, then stir and let sit for about 10 minutes.
  2. Whisk together flour, salt, and cinnamon in another bowl. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, then add eggs and softened butter, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour if too sticky.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about â…“ inch thick.
  6. Spread softened butter over the dough, mix remaining brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and sprinkle over the buttered surface.
  7. From the long edge, roll the dough into a tight log and cut into 12 pieces, placing in a greased baking dish.
  8. Cover rolls with a towel and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. While baking, beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a bowl until creamy and smooth.
  11. Spread cream cheese frosting over slightly cooled rolls and serve warm.
